Protecting Loved Ones Who Need Help Managing Their Affairs

Understanding Conservatorships in Mississippi

A conservatorship is a court-ordered relationship in which one person (the conservator) is appointed to manage the property, finances, or personal affairs of another (the conservatee). Mississippi’s Uniform Chancery Court Rules govern how these appointments are made and monitored.

The court typically appoints a conservator when an adult is unable to make responsible decisions due to advanced age, mental decline, injury, or disability. In some cases, conservatorships are also used for younger adults with significant developmental conditions.

Our attorneys help families assess whether a conservatorship is appropriate, prepare the necessary filings, and represent them throughout the court process.

Types of Conservatorships

Mississippi law allows for different types of conservatorships depending on the individual’s needs:

  • General Conservatorship: Gives the conservator full authority to manage financial and personal affairs.
  • Limited Conservatorship: Grants authority only in specific areas, such as medical or financial management.
  • Temporary or Emergency Conservatorship: Allows immediate, short-term action when someone faces serious risk of harm or exploitation.
  • Voluntary Conservatorship: Established when an individual acknowledges they need help and consents to the appointment.

We help families choose the structure that best protects their loved one while preserving as much independence as possible.

Mr. Hisaw has been nothing but professional and is incredibly knowledgeable.
    - Christa D.
After my first consult with him, I walked out of his office with confidence in my case.

Wesley Hisaw has represented me with my post divorce modification as well as a faultless MVA case. Divorce is never easy, but mine was exceptionally complicated and sensitive in nature. I was let down by my previous attorney and my trust in legal representation was broken. After my first consult with him, I walked out of his office with confidence in my case. I felt I was exactly where I needed to be and genuinely trusted he would help me, which he did! He is worth every penny and highly recommend! He has ALWAYS been there when I needed his legal guidance and support, extremely responsive and his assurance has never failed me!

    - Keron S.
